Here is How to Add Instagram Story Links, And What to Do if You Can’t
In 2018, Instagram has become a Social Media powerhouse – there is no doubt about that. If you think otherwise, you may want to reconsider. Knowing how to add Instagram story links taps into a piece of that social power.
There are currently 800 million monthly active users and experts believe it will reach one billion users before the end of 2018. Putting that into perspective, more than twice the monthly active users on Twitter, and three times as many on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
Let’s face it, in 2018, visuals are everything. Combining both ease of use and visual aesthetics, Instagram is a crucial element for any business of any size. Instagram shouldn’t be your only social media channel, however. Your marketing strategy should include 13 – 20 different channels.
With 71% of today’s businesses using Instagram (8.1 Million Accounts), it is a crucial platform for B2B (Business-to-Business) service providers and online stores. Another fact to consider is that 80% of users today follow multiple business accounts.
Did You Know? Posts with a tagged location receive 79% more engagement than those that don’t?
Why is this important? I’ll explain.
Instagram posts that have a tagged location, whether in the post or Story, increase engagement and potential 4.5% conversion rate for a business’s products or services.
Here is How to Add Instagram Story Links to Increase Engagement and thus Conversion Rates
So your Instagram account is thriving. You’re gaining a mass amount of followers. Now it’s time to take it up a notch and increase both engagement and conversion rates.
Once your follower list hits 10,000, you’re now eligible to receive the “link” in your Story feature. What is the downside? You can only get this feature if you don’t have 10,000 followers.
As this feature grows in popularity with both businesses and personal accounts, our hope is one day this restriction will be removed.
Here’s how to add the link feature if you have 10,000 followers.
Open Your Instagram App
Now, open your Story feature. Take your desired photo or video. After your account has been verified, you should now see a “chainlink” at the top.
After clicking on the chainlink, you’ll see the following screen:
And there you have it. You’re done!
Here are the cons of Instagram Links: There is currently no ability to track in Instagram analytics how many users are clicking those links. However, you can use a URL shortener service such as “bit.ly” or “Rebrand.ly” to measure link clicks.
If you have four or five posts, make sure to only insert one or two links.
As a marketer, you should be aware that not every post requires a link. Measure the value in your posts to determine whether they require links. Do the links add value?
Pro-Tip: If you’re posting blogs about your products or services, create an Instagram post with a link directing back to the blog post. This tactic ensures an increase in referral traffic.
But What if I Don’t Have 10,000 Followers?
Like Snapchat, you can insert a “text-based” link. Just like you are writing text on the screen so can you write out any desired URL. Not the most pretty or user-friendly method since the latest update, but it does the trick if you have high engagement from your followers. They will still follow the link.
